Health Guarantee
Animal Health, Adoption Support and Rehoming Policy
At Haven Tail Rescue Home, the health, safety, and well-being of every puppy and kitten in our care are central to our mission. We believe responsible adoption involves providing appropriate care, sharing available health information, and helping adopters understand their new companion’s needs.
Our approach focuses on animal welfare, transparency, responsible adoption practices, and continued support for families welcoming a new companion into their homes.
1. Initial Veterinary Health Assessment
Before a puppy or kitten leaves our care, we aim to ensure that their health needs have been appropriately assessed and that any known concerns are communicated to the prospective adopter.
Where veterinary examinations have been performed, available information may include the animal’s general condition, growth and development, and any health concerns identified by the veterinarian.
We are committed to sharing accurate information about each animal’s health history and the veterinary care they have received.
2. Veterinary Health Certificates and Records
Depending on the animal’s circumstances, available documentation may include veterinary examination records, vaccination records, deworming information, treatment history, and any applicable health certificates.
If a puppy or kitten requires transportation, additional documentation may be necessary depending on the destination and transport provider.
Health certificates can only be provided when issued by an appropriately qualified veterinary professional. We encourage prospective adopters to review all available records and ask questions before completing the adoption process.
Our goal is to help every adopting family understand their new companion’s known health history and ongoing care requirements.
3. Understanding Breed-Related Health Concerns
Different breeds may have an increased risk of certain hereditary or breed-associated conditions. Understanding these potential concerns can help adopters make informed decisions and plan for appropriate veterinary care.
Examples include:
-
German Shepherds: Hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, and degenerative myelopathy.
-
Dachshunds: Intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) and other spinal problems.
-
Shih Tzus: Eye conditions, breathing difficulties, and patellar luxation.
-
Maine Coons: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and hip dysplasia.
-
Ragdolls: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and other inherited health concerns.
These conditions are not present in every animal of a particular breed. Their mention does not imply that an individual puppy or kitten has any of these conditions.
As a rescue and rehoming organization, our priority is to provide appropriate care and communicate known health information rather than make unsupported guarantees about an animal’s future health.
4. Vaccination and Preventive Care
We recognize the importance of preventive veterinary care in helping puppies and kittens develop and maintain good health.
Depending on each animal’s age, medical history, and veterinary recommendations, care may include:
-
Age-appropriate vaccinations.
-
Deworming and parasite prevention.
-
Veterinary examinations and follow-up appointments.
-
Appropriate nutrition and access to clean water.
-
Monitoring of appetite, activity, growth, and general condition.
-
Advice on future vaccinations and preventive treatments.
Vaccination schedules vary according to age, previous vaccinations, health status, and local veterinary guidance.
We will communicate the treatments and vaccinations documented in each animal’s available records. Adopters should not assume that a vaccination or treatment has been administered unless it has been confirmed.
We recommend establishing a relationship with a veterinarian soon after adoption to develop an appropriate preventive care plan.
5. Post-Adoption Veterinary Support
Our commitment to responsible rehoming includes encouraging adopters to seek veterinary care after bringing their new companion home.
We recommend arranging an initial veterinary appointment as soon as reasonably possible, ideally within the first 48 hours when practical, particularly for young animals or those with incomplete medical histories.
During this appointment, a veterinarian can:
-
Assess the animal’s general health.
-
Review available vaccination and treatment records.
-
Recommend appropriate vaccinations and parasite prevention.
-
Discuss nutrition, growth, and developmental needs.
-
Identify any concerns requiring further investigation.
If your puppy or kitten shows signs of illness, such as persistent vomiting, diarrhea, difficulty breathing, unusual weakness, or refusal to eat, seek veterinary advice promptly rather than waiting for a routine appointment.
We encourage adopters to contact us with questions about the information provided during adoption, while recognizing that medical diagnosis and treatment must be handled by a veterinary professional.
6. Our Adoption Support Policy
At Haven Tail Rescue Home, we understand that adopting an animal is a significant responsibility. Although we cannot guarantee that an animal will never develop a medical condition, we aim to be transparent about known health concerns and provide the information available to us.
Our adoption support may include:
-
Answering questions about an animal’s documented history.
-
Explaining available veterinary and vaccination records.
-
Providing general guidance on settling into a new home.
-
Encouraging appropriate veterinary follow-up.
-
Discussing responsible options if an adopter encounters unexpected difficulties.
The specific support available will depend on the circumstances of the adoption and the services our organization can provide.
We encourage prospective adopters to discuss any concerns before finalizing an adoption so that expectations and responsibilities are clear.
7. Responsible Rehoming and Return Policy
We understand that unforeseen circumstances can sometimes make it difficult for a family to continue caring for an adopted animal.
If you are unable to keep your puppy or kitten, please contact Haven Tail Rescue Home as early as possible. Our priority will be to discuss the situation and consider options that protect the animal’s welfare.
Depending on the circumstances and our capacity, possible next steps may include:
-
Discussing the challenges you are experiencing.
-
Providing guidance on appropriate professional support.
-
Reviewing whether a return to our care can be arranged.
-
Helping identify suitable alternative rehoming options when possible.
Please do not abandon an animal or transfer it to an unknown person without considering its safety. Contact us to discuss an appropriate plan.
Any return arrangements will be discussed individually. Adoption fees, refunds, transportation costs, and other conditions will be governed by the written adoption agreement and applicable law. A refund or exchange is not automatically guaranteed.
Our priority is to find a safe, responsible outcome for the animal.
8. The Animal Return Process
If you need to discuss returning an adopted puppy or kitten, we encourage you to follow these steps.
Step 1: Contact Us
Reach out to Haven Tail Rescue Home and explain your circumstances. Please let us know whether the concern involves the animal’s health, behavior, compatibility with your household, or a change in your living situation.
Step 2: Share Relevant Information
Where appropriate, provide available adoption paperwork, veterinary records, and details of any health or behavioral concerns. This information helps us understand the situation and consider suitable next steps.
Step 3: Discuss Available Options
We will discuss the options available based on the animal’s welfare, the circumstances of the adoption, and our capacity to assist. If a return is possible, the arrangements and responsibilities will be explained before the animal is transported.
Step 4: Arrange a Safe Return
If a return is agreed upon, we will discuss a suitable date, location, and transportation arrangements. The animal should be transported safely, with any relevant medical records and necessary care information.
Step 5: Assess the Animal’s Needs
Once the animal is back in our care, we will consider its immediate needs and arrange appropriate veterinary attention if necessary. Further care or rehoming decisions will be based on the animal’s circumstances.
Step 6: Discuss Any Applicable Financial Arrangements
Any refund or reimbursement will be considered according to the written adoption agreement and applicable law. We will explain the applicable terms rather than promise a refund or exchange in every situation.
We understand that rehoming decisions can be emotionally difficult. Our aim is to approach these situations with compassion, clear communication, and a focus on the animal’s safety.
9. Important Responsibilities for Adopters
Adopting an animal means accepting responsibility for its ongoing care, health, safety, and welfare.
We encourage every adopter to:
-
Arrange regular veterinary examinations.
-
Follow veterinary recommendations for vaccinations and preventive treatments.
-
Provide suitable food, fresh water, shelter, exercise, and enrichment.
-
Maintain a safe and clean living environment.
-
Seek professional advice when health or behavioral concerns arise.
-
Contact us if unexpected circumstances affect their ability to care for the animal.
A supportive home and consistent care can make a meaningful difference in an adopted animal’s life.
10. Our Promise of Compassionate and Responsible Rehoming

We are committed to treating the animals in our care with compassion, communicating honestly about their known needs, and encouraging adopters to make informed decisions.
Whether you are considering a German Shepherd, Dachshund, Shih Tzu, Maine Coon, Ragdoll, or another available companion, we encourage you to ask questions, review the available records, and prepare for the responsibilities of lifelong care.
